I love this song. I discovered it for the first time watching the movie The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. It is sad yet beautiful. It reminds me that we need to allow others to help us carry our burdens- whether it is a long day with the kids or the helplessness of illness. And though those around us may not be able to "fix" what is wrong, we need to embrace the care that is offered instead of pushing back in weary frustration...or more often as women, become self effacing and hide ourselves away to unburden those around us and deal with "it" on our own. Whatever your style, if we do not allow our loved ones the opportunity to support us when we are in need, we risk alienating them and being drawn into the vicious circle of "I am alone in this."
Dimming of the Day
by Richard & Linda Thompson
This old house is falling down around my ears
I'm drowning in a river of my tears
When all my will is gone you hold me sway
I need you at the dimming of the day
You pull me like the moon pulls on the tide
You know just where I keep my better side
What days have come to keep us far apart
A broken promise or a broken heart
Now all the bonnie birds have wheeled away
I need you at the dimming of the day
Come the night you're only what I want
Come the night you could be my confident
I see you on the street in company
Why don't you come and ease your mind with me
I'm living for the night we steal away
I need you at the dimming of the day
I need you at the dimming of the day
I'm drowning in a river of my tears
When all my will is gone you hold me sway
I need you at the dimming of the day
You pull me like the moon pulls on the tide
You know just where I keep my better side
What days have come to keep us far apart
A broken promise or a broken heart
Now all the bonnie birds have wheeled away
I need you at the dimming of the day
Come the night you're only what I want
Come the night you could be my confident
I see you on the street in company
Why don't you come and ease your mind with me
I'm living for the night we steal away
I need you at the dimming of the day
I need you at the dimming of the day
